Welcome to HotelGuide.Networks' directory of hotels and hotel reviews for Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada!

Less than 25 miles north of the U.S. border, Vancouver -- "jewel of Canada" and site of the 2010 Winter Olympics -- awaits on the Pacific shoreline in the southwest corner of British Columbia. As both an idyllic destination unto itself and a magnetic cruise embarkation point, Vancouver sparkles with a cosmopolitan multicultural appeal for all seasons. Attractions range from H.R. MacMillan SpaceCenter, Vancouver Maritime Museum, Capilano Suspension Bridge, and Vancouver Lookout at Harbour Centre to the Vancouver Aquarium, and VanDusen Botanical Garden. Grouse Mountain (the Peak of Vancouver) allows escape from city streets to often snowy slopes in a 15-minute aerial tram Skyride, leading to shopping, dining and Theatre in the Sky. Whistler (Vancouver's partner for the 2010 Olympics) awaits on a mountain nearby for both skiing and summer fun, and a ferry ride away is picturesque Victoria Island, known as the Garden City, with its spectacular Butchart Gardens. With a Starbucks on seemingly every other corner, Vancouver's restaurant scene also has mushroomed in recent years, offering diversity from fresh-caught seafood and aged steaks to authentic East Indian curries. Vancouver's Chinese new year is one of the biggest celebrations in Canada. While the Canadian dollar (worth about two-thirds of the U.S. dollar) prevails, both the U.S. dollar and Japanese yen are readily accepted. After English and Chinese in cosmopolitan Vancouver, the most common mother tongue languages spoken are Punjabi, German, Italian, French, Tagalog (Filipino) and Spanish. Three taxation levels affect visitors to Vancouver: A 10 percent tax on accommodations and liquor, a 7 percent PST tax, and a 7 percent GST tax on goods and services that visitors from outside Canada can apply to have reimbursed when departing the country. With more than 13,000 guest rooms downtown near fine restaurants, theater, sport venues and shopping, Vancouver ranks as Canada's only city offering two five-diamond hotels as rated by the American Automobile Association. In addition to hostels, campgrounds, and RV parks, Vancouver accommodations range from suburban and downtown bed and breakfasts and family-owned motels to hotels from modest to luxurious. Release of 2010 Olympic Winter Games event schedules is set for spring, 2008, with tickets going on sale in fall, 2008. Most hotels are not taking Olympics bookings until 2008, although some are now compiling waiting lists.
